Episcia lilacina Hanst., Linnaea 34: 342. 1865; Cyrtodeira chontalensis Seem.; E. chontalensis (Seem.) Hook. f.

Acaulescentes o hasta 6 cm o más altas. Hojas 3–8 cm de largo y 2–5 cm de ancho, ápice agudo, base subcordada, redondeada a aguda, frecuentemente oblicua. Flores 1 ó 2 por axila; lobos del cáliz lanceolados u oblongos, ca 8 mm de largo y 1–3 mm de ancho; corola blanca, azul o violeta, tubo cilíndrico, ligeramente más grande en la garganta, ca 2 cm de largo y 5 mm de ancho, limbo 2–3 cm de ancho, lobos orbiculares y menudamente dentados.

Ocasional en bosques siempreverdes y en los márgenes de canales en la zona atlántica; 100–350 m; fl y fr mar, jul–sep y nov; Ortiz 90, Stevens 16592; Nicaragua a Colombia. "Terciopelo".
