Ossaea robusta (Triana) Cogn., Monogr. Phan. 7: 1065. 1891; Octopleura robusta Triana

Arbustos o árboles pequeños, 1.5–6 m de alto; ramitas jóvenes, pecíolos, nervios principales and secondary del envés de la hoja, inflorescencia, and hypanthium densamente to moderately covered with an indumentum dendriculate and/or stellulate-furfuraceous, pale brown. Hojas elípticas a elíptico-obovadas, 8.5—26 (--34) cm de largo y 5--18 cm de ancho, ápice acuminate a briefly acuminado, base often oblique, obtuse to attenuate, margen inconspicuously serrulate, glabras en el haz, sparsely covered by diminutive glands on the tertiary veins on the envez, 5-plinervias. Inflorescencia paniculate, 4--10 cm de largo, typically branched from or near the base, flores 5-meras, sésiles or subsessile, bractéolas triangular, ca 0.5 mm de largo, persistent; cáliz lobes fused in bud and rupturing at anthesis into 5 hyaline, inconspicuous lobes 0.3--0.5 mm de largo, los dientes exteriores diminutive, tuberculiform, rarely extending beyond the lobes; pétalos oblong,  2--4 mm de largo y 0.75--1 mm de ancho, glabrous or sometimes with abaxial margin stellate-puberulent or abaxial surface with scattered, diminutive stellate hairs; filamentos ca 1.5 mm de largo, tecas clavate, 1.4—1.5 mm de largo con un poro dorsalmente inclinado, conectivo prolongado en un diente dorsibasal, 0.4—0.5 mm de largo, margin glandular; ovario 5-locular, ca ¾ ínfero. Baya 10-acostillada.

Known in Nicaragua from one collection (Rueda 9224), Cerro Bolivar, 150—280 m; bud y young fr nov; Nicaragua to Peru.
