Annotation: It is the Woolls account (1886) with its descriptive detail that validates the name and he credits A. Cunningham, so the ascription is “A. Cunn. ex Woolls.” The species can not be ascribed to Bentham, because Mueller in Bentham, Fl. Australiensis (1867:210), did not accept the name, noting it as "name only." There was an earlier use of the name J. Exped. Trop. Australia [Mitchell], 1848: 339, “and among the larger forest trees was a Eucalyptus, allied to, but probably distinct from, the E. SIDEROXYLON A. Cunn.” This is the only mention of the species name and was a nomen nudum, no description. Hollowell III 2013
