5. Bromus exaltatus Bernh., Linnaea 15: Litt. 90 (1841). Lectotipo (designado por Davidse y Pohl, 1992): México, Anon. (MO- 2957788!).

Perennes cespitosas. Tallos 45-120 cm. Vainas densamente pilosas; lígula 0.4-1.4 mm; láminas 10-30 cm x 3-7 mm, pelosas a casi glabras. Panícula 10-22 cm, péndula. Espiguillas 2.5-3.5 cm; gluma inferior 6.5-9 mm, 3-nervia; gluma superior 7.2-11 mm, 3-nervia, con una arista hasta 0.1-1.6 mm; flósculos 5-13; lemas 11-14 mm, 5-nervias, pelosas, el ápice agudo, la arista 2.4-6 mm. 2n=14. Bosques y páramos. Ch (Davidse et al. 29801, MO); G (Smith 654, ISC); CR (Pohl y Davidse 10692, ISC); P (Woodson et al. 408, MO). 2100-3500 m. (S. México a Panamá.)
