Gonzalagunia panamensis (Cav.) K. Schum. in Mart., Fl. Bras. 6(6): 292. 1889; Buena panamensis Cav.

Arbustos o arbolitos hasta 5 m de alto, estrigosos. Hojas lanceoladas, 5–15 cm de largo y 1–4 cm de ancho, ápice acuminado, base cuneada a obtusa, papiráceas, nervios secundarios 5–8 pares; pecíolos 4–30 mm de largo; estípulas 6–27 mm de largo. Inflorescencias 6–30 cm de largo, pedúnculo 1–5 cm de largo, flores sésiles o con pedicelos hasta 1 mm de largo; limbo calicino 0.3–1 mm de largo, profundamente lobulado, lobos triangulares a angostamente elípticos; corola externamente estrigosa a glabrescente, tubo 8–13 mm de largo, lobos 2–3 mm de largo, redondeados. Frutos 3–4 mm de largo y 3–8 mm de ancho, rojos luego morados a negros.

Frecuente en bosques húmedos, generalmente en vegetación secundaria o perturbada, en todo el país; 50–1200 m; fl may–jun, fr jul–mar; Moreno 11614, Stevens 22453; centro de México al norte de Colombia. Morfológicamente variable.
