Notes: This species is known from Panama and adjacent northwestern Colombia. It is distinctive morphologically in its "trash-bucket" habit (unbranched or little-branched, low in stature, and with the leaves subsessile and clasping the stem with detritus accumulating in their bases), subsessile or only shortly pedunculate capitate inflorescences. This is one of several species found in this region and in Costa Rica with this habit.
