Notes: This species is occasionally collected in wet lowland vegetation in Panama. It is distinctive in its "trash bucket" habit, mostly unbranched with the robust leaves subsessile or only shortly petiolate and accumulating detritus in their bases, and the inflorescences capitate and enclosed by involucrate bracts. It is similar in its habit to several other Psychotria species found in the same region.
