Notes:
A monotypic genus, Calyptopogon mnioides (Schwägr.) Broth. exhibits an Austral-Antarctic Andean distribution, in the Neotropics apparently only known from Ecuador. The intramarginal border consisting of smooth, porose cells, and papillose laminal cells, and presence of dorsal stereid band, in combination with habitat are diagnostic. Apparently only known from the Neotropics based on a collection made in the 19thcentury by Jameson from Ecuador labeled “Andes Quitenses.” This distinctive moss is likely rare in our region, or possibly it merely reflects that aquatic habitats have not been emphasized by collectors.
