general taxon notes:

When Mönkemeyer (1927) established the Cratoneuronaceae, he emphasized the morphology of polymorphous paraphyllia, the papillosity of median leaf cells, and the differentiation of alar cells. Ochyra (1989) considered that Cratoneuron includes one species and one variety, and the genus should be treated in the Cratoneuronaceae. Cratoneuron is here still placed in the Amblystegiaceae in a traditional way.
