Ctenidium contains 21 species distributed in tropical highlands and temperate boreal regions of the world except Africa; a single species in the Neotropics Ctenidium malacodes Mitt. (Nishimura, 1985). The broadly ovate-abruptly acuminate falcate stem leaves with strongly serrulate margins, faint forked costa and strong projecting cells are diagnostic.
Ctenidium contiene 21 especies distribuidas en tierras altas tropicales y regiones boreales y templadas del mundo excepto áfrica. Sólo una especie presente en el Neotrópico: Ctenidium malacodes Mitt. Esta especie se caracteriza por las plantas algo robustas, hojas de los tallos agregadas anchamente ovado-abruptamente acuminadas falcadas, márgenes marcadamente serrados, costa tenue bifurcada y fuerte proyectándose células.
