Bryonorrisia acutifolia (Mitt.) Enroth was reported from Sichuan, Taiwan, and Yunnan provinces (Redfearn et al. 1996). Granzow de la Cerda (1989) recently treated Bryonorrisia Stark & Buck as a synonym of Herpetineuron and made the new combination of H. acutifolium (Mitt.) Granzow de la Cerda.

Plants medium-sized to robust, rigid, yellowish green to brownish green in lax tufts. Primary stems creeping, often with asexual stoloniferous branches, secondary stems erect or ascending, irregularly to sparsely branched, circinnate at apices when dry, caudate. Stem leaves and branch leaves similar, ovate-lanceolate or widely lanceolate, often undulate, concave and conspicuously keeled, acuminate above; leaf margins entire at base, irregularly grossly dentate above; costa strong, not percurrent, gradually slender and obviously zigzag above; leaf cells nearly isomorphic, hexagonal, opaque, smooth, thick-walled; branch leaves rather small and narrow. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves light yellow, from a widely sheathing base narrowed into a lanceolate acumen. Setae reddish brown; capsules ovoid to cylindrical, brown, symmetrical, stomata present; annuli well developed; opercula conical; exostome teeth light in color, lanceolate, fenestrate, densely papillose; endostome segments linear, pale, densely papillose; basal membrane well developed. Calyptrae smooth.
