Jaegerina contains some 10 species distributed in the tropics, primarily in Africa; two species in the Neotropics. The genus is characterized by simple or sparingly branched secondary stems, squarrose-spreading secondary stem leaves, leaf base weakly auriculate or lacking auricles, single costa or costa variable, single or short and double in leaves from the same stem, and laminal cells smooth to weakly projecting at cell angles.
Jaegerina contiene unas 10 especies distribuidas en los trópicos, principalmente en áfrica; dos especies en el Neotrópico. En Andes tropicales sólo una especie ha sido registrada, Jaegerina scariosa (Lorentz) Arzeni. El género se caracteriza por los tallos secundarios simples o escasamente ramificados, hojas de los tallos secundarios escuarroso-extendidas, bases de las hojas débilmente auriculadas o aurículas ausentes, costa simple o variable, simple o corta y doble en las hojas del mismo tallo, y células de la lámina lisas o ángulos de las célula proyectándose débilmente.
