Leptodictyum is characterized by rather lax and soft leafy stems, ovate- to oblong-lanceolate leaves, gradually acuminate apices, linear- to oblong-rhomboidal upper laminal cells that are rather thin-walled, generally 6-8 (or more) times longer than wide, undifferentiated or weakly differentiated alar cells that are slightly enlarged.
 
Leptodictyum se caracteriza por los tallos foliosos algo laxos y suaves, hojas ovado- a oblongo-lanceoladas, ápices gradualmente acuminados, células superiores de la lámina lineal- a oblongo-romboidales con paredes algo delgadas, generalmente 6-8 (o más) veces más largas que anchas, células alares indiferenciadas o levemente diferenciadas, ligeramente alargadas.
