general taxon notes:

Porotrichopsis is monospecific genus, confined to the tropical Andes (Enroth, 1995). The genus appears in aspect as a rather depauperate Porotrichum; the differentiated alar cells, golden-brown or somewhat reddish and subquadrate, help in separating this species from members of that genus; the alar cells are rather suggestive of Porotrichodendron. Porotrichopsis is often found growing hardly noticeable among other bryophytes, e.g., Rigodium, Porotrichum and Plagiochila. Although presently known only for Colombia and Bolivia it will likely to be found throughout the tropical Andes.
