Pseudo-calliergon contains five species primarily distributed in the temperate and arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere; two species in the Neotropics, both restricted to the tropical Andes.


Pseudo-calliergon contiene cinco especies principalmente distribuidas en la región ártica del hemisferio norte; dos especies en el Neotrópico, ambas restringidas a los Andes tropicales.

Plants medium sized, turgid or not. Stems unbranched to irregularly pinnately branched ± in one plane; in cross-section hyalodermis absent, central strand present; pseudoparaphyllia foliose. Leaves ± erect, straight, mostly imbricate, ovate, concave, decurrent or not, apex apiculate to rounded; margins plane, entire to finely denticulate, costa single and elongate or short and double; upper and median cells linear, porose or not, smooth, alar region little differentiated, cells quadrate to rectangular, thin- to thick-walled, porose or not, walls yellow. Dioicous. [Setae elongate, red. Capsules curved, horizontal, urn cylindrical; opercula conic; peristome double, well developed. Calyptrae cucullate, naked. Spores lightly papillose].


Plantas medianas, túrgidas o no. Tallos sin ramificar a irregularmente pinnado ± en un plano; sin hialodermis en corte transversal, cordón central presente; pseudoparáfilos foliosos. Hojas ± erectas, rectas, generalmente imbricadas, ovadas, cóncavas, decurrentes o no, ápices apiculados hasta redondeados; márgenes planos, enteros a finamente denticulados, costa simple y larga o corta y doble; células superiores y medias lineales, porosas o no, lisas, región alar poco diferenciada, células cuadradas a rectangulares, con paredes gruesas a delgadas, porosa o no, paredes amarillas. Dioica. [Setas largas y rojas. Cápsulas curvadas, horizontales, urna cilíndrica; opérculo cónico; peristoma doble, bien desarrollado. Caliptra cuculada y desnuda. Esporas finamente papilosas].
