general taxon notes:

Rhabdoweisia contains five species distributed in temperate and tropical montane regions. In Bolivia and the Neotropics two species are recorded. The genus is characterized by the small stature of the plants, linear- to oblong lanceolate leaves, crispate when dry, plane to weakly recurved on one side, subentire to denticulate or serrulate distally, subquadrate upper cells, undifferentiated alar cells, 8-ribbed capsules, and smooth or weakly obliquely striate peristome.

Leaves somewhat crispate when dry, linear-lanceolate to ligulate, apex acuminate to acute or obtuse; margins plane to slightly recurved below, entire to irregular denticulate; costae single, ending below apex; median and upper cells quadrate-rounded or transversely-short elongate, smooth; lower and basal cells elongate, rather lax; alar region undifferentiated. Autoicous. Perichaetia terminal; leaves larger or similar in size to stem leaves. Setae rather short to elongate, smooth. Capsules erect, urn ovoid to short cylindrical, when dry 8-ribbed; exothecial cells short to long rectangular, walls firm; stomata 1-few at urn base, superficial; annuli absent or weakly differentiated and persistent; opercula short rostrate, oblique; peristome single, reduced, smooth or obliquely striate. Calyptrae cucullate, smooth and naked. Spores finely to rather coarsely papillose.
