Notes:
Symphyodon is unmistakable when capsules are present. An unusual character among neotropical pleurocarpic mosses is the presence of spines on the urn; other features aiding in distinguishing this species include the soft, glossy ovate to ovate-lanceolate leaves with short decurrent bases, short and forked costae, and few quadrate to oblong alar cells.
