general taxon notes:
A pantropical genus of some 50 species with the greatest diversity in the Paleotropics. Three species are recorded for the Neotropics. In the tropical Andes found in low to mid montane forest on logs and base of trees. The genus appears to be rather rare, which may only reflect the lack of intensive collecting efforts. A single species is represented in Bolivia, Wijkia subnitida (Hampe) H.A. Crum, distinguished by the differentiated stem and branch leaves. The name Acanthocladium hom. illeg., was previously used for our species.
