Pseudotaxiphyllum is close to Isopterygium, but differs in the absence of pseudoparaphyllia, having well developed annuli, and dioicous sexual condition. It consists of 7 species in the world; four species are found in China. The reports on Pseudotaxiphyllum arquifolium (Bosch & Sande Lac.) Iwats. and P. distichaceum (Mitt.) Iwats. cannot be confirmed. Two species are treated here.

Plants small to fairly robust. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched; in cross section epidermal cells small, thick-walled; pseudoparaphyllia absent. Leaves asymmetric, rhizoids present at base; margins plane, serrulate near the apex. Brood bodies present in leaf axils. Dioicous. Setae elongate, smooth; capsules suberect or horizontal; annuli differentiated; peristome double. Spores spherical, minutely papillose.
