Notes:

Ecology: Open secondary montane forest, possibly extending into the shrubby páramo and puna; on soil and rocks, frequently along streams. Elevation: 1200-3900 m (Colombia: 2260 m, Ecuador: 2750-3300 m, Peru: 1200-3900 m). Distribution: Rather widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, in the Neotropics known from a few locally widespread sites from Mexico to Colombia. New to Colombia.
 
Fissidens bryoides is a highly variable taxon (Pursell 2007). Features of this species include the lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate or -lingulate leaves, acute to short acuminate or obtuse-apciulate apex, entire or occaionally serrulate distal margins, bordered throughout, percurrent to short excurrent costa, vaginant laminae 1/2-2/3 the leaf length, firm-walled, smooth to sligthly bulging laminal cells.
 
Fissidens bryoides es un taxon muy variable (Pursell 2007). Las características de esta especie incluyen las hojas lanceoladas a oblongo-lanceoladas o -linguladas, ápices agudos a corto acuminados u obtuso-apiculados, márgenes enteros u occaionally serrulados distalmente, completamente bordeados, costa percurrente a corto excurrente, lámina vaginante 1/2-2/3 del largo de la hoja, células de la lámina con paredes firmes, lisas a ligeramente abultadas.
