Notes:

Ecology: Open or forested montane to páramo; exposed to shaded sites, usually on soil or rocks, often along or in streams, occasionally boggy sites. Elevation: 2100-4100 m (Venezuela: 3000-3670 m, Colombia: 2100-4100 m, Ecuador: 2650-4030 m, Peru: 4267 m, Bolivia: 2380-3810 m). Distribution: Widespread in temperate and montane regions.
 
Ecología: Montano abierto o arbolado hasta páramo; lugares expuestos a sombreados, usualmente sobre suelo o rocas, generalmente a lo largo o en corrientes. Elevación: 2100-4100 m (Venezuela: 3000-3670 m, Colombia: 2100-4100 m, Ecuador: 2650-4030 m, Perú: 4267 m, Bolivia: 2380-3810 m). Distribución: Está ampliamente distribuida en regiones templadas y montanas.
 
Kindbergia praelonga is distinguished by the terete-foliate plants, differentiated stem and branch leaves, broadly ovate abruptly acuminate stem leaves (to 1.4 mm) with reflexed apex, smaller, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate branch leaves (to ca. 1 mm) with erect apex, serrate margins, costa extending into the leaf acumen, elongate, papillose setae, cylindrical, horizontal to inclined capsules, and long rostrate opercula. This taxon has generally been recognized as Eurhynchium praelongum (Hedw.) Schimp. Cratoneuron oedogonium Müll. Hal. (= Kindbergia oedogonium (Müll. Hal.) Ochyra) is a likely synonym. This species has also be variously placed in Stokesiella (= Kindbergia) and Oxyrrhynchium. Synonyms include Hypnum exasperatum Hampe and Rigodium toxarioides Broth. & Paris in Paris.
