Ecology. Yungas montane forest, probably extending into the shrubby puna; on shrubs, trunk and branches of treelets. Elevation. 1800-3400 m. Distribution. Bolivia: Cochabamba, La Paz, Santa Cruz. World range: Central America, Colombia to Chile, and southeast Brazil.
 
Ecología. Bosque montano de Yungas, probablemente extendiéndose en la puna arbustiva; sobre arbustos, troncos y ramas de arbolitos. Altitud. 1800-3400 m. Distribución. Bolivia: Cochabamba, La Paz y Santa Cruz. Distribución mundial: Centro América, Colombia a Chile, y sureste de Brasil.
 
Daltonia gracilis, widespread throughout the tropical Andes, is characterized by the small statured plants to 10 mm but often less, narrowly linear-lanceolate leaves to 2.5(3) mm, recurved or revolute leaf margins, well differentiated border extending throughout with 6-8 cell rows at base, oblong-rectangular basal cells, and distal half of seta roughened or scabrous. Daltonia minutifolia Müll. Hal., collected by Germain from Choquecamata, is a synonym.
 
Daltonia gracilis, amplia distribución en los Andes tropicales, se caracteriza por la pequeña estatura de las plantas hasta 10 mm pero a menudo menores, hojas angostamente lineo-lanceoladas hasta 2.5(3) mm, márgenes de las hojas recurvados o revolutos, borde bien diferenciado extendiéndose completamente con 6-8 filas de células en la base, células basales oblongo-rectangulares y mitad distal de las setas rugosas o escabrosas. Daltonia minutifolia Müll. Hal., colectada por Germain en Choquecamata, es un sinónimo.
