Ecology. Humid puna; on rocks in streams. Elevation. 3400-5100 m. Distribution. Bolivia: Cochabamba, La Paz. World range: Colombia to Chile; circum-Antarctica (Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea).

Among the Andreaea species, this and A. subulata are the only aquatic or semi-aquatic species found in Bolivia and the tropical Andes. Synonyms include Andreaea subenervis Hook. f. & Wilson and Cochlearidium aymaranum Ochyra & Mahu.
