general taxon notes:
This species is characterized by its long, slenderly acuminate leaf apices, strongly falcate-secund leaves, distinctly differentiated alar cells, and a row of inflated, hyaline, thin-walled epidermal stem cells.

2. Hypnum callichroum Brid.   尖叶灰藓   jian ye hui xian
Bryol. Univ. 2: 631. 1827. Stereodon callichrous (Brid.) Braith., Brit. Moss Fl. 3: 166. 1902. Type: Europe.
 
Plants soft and slender, in dense mats, green or yellowish green, somewhat glossy. Stems prostrate or erect-ascending; in stem cross section one layer of inflated, hyaline, and thin-walled epidermal cells, central strand well developed; regularly pinnately branched, branches short, often circinate; pseudoparaphyllia foliose or lanceolate. Stem leaves falcate-secund, 1.6–1.8 mm × 0.7–0.8 mm, broadly elliptical-lanceolate, narrowed and decurrent at base, gradually slenderly acuminate, slightly concave and plicate; margins plane, entire; costae double, short or indistinct; leaf cells linear, 47–80 µm × 4–5 µm, basal cells shorter, thick-walled; alar cells distinctly differentiated, few, oval or rounded rectangular, hyaline or yellowish brown, excavate. Dioicous. Setae elongate, 1.5–2.0 cm long, reddish; capsules suberect or horizontal, usually slightly arcuate, cylindrical; opercula conic; annuli differentiate, 3–4 rows. Calyptrae not seen. Spores 16–18 µm in diameter, minutely papillose or nearly smooth.
