Plants small, to ca. 1 cm high, dark brownish green or reddish brown, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple, or irregularly branched, radiculose at the base. Leaves often rosulate at the stem tips, contorted-curved when dry, spreading when moist, oblong-lanceolate to ligulate-lanceolate, broadly channeled above, bluntly acute at the apex, somewhat sheathing at the base; margins plane or weakly incurved, only serrulate near apex; costa rather stout, percurrent; upper leaf cells quadrate to rounded-hexagonal, smooth, but sometimes bulging on the ventral side of leaves; basal cells rectangular, thin-walled, smooth, hyaline. Dioicous. Setae ca. 1 cm long; capsules erect, cylindrical, clearly with a neck, yellowish green, brownish when old; peristome teeth short-filiform, erect, densely papillose; annuli consisting of 2 rows of cells; opercula conic-rostrate, with a long erect beak.
