Tortella fragilis is characterized by the plants in dense tufts, absence of a central strand, long lanceolate leaves to 4.5 mm with fragile and typically deciduous apices.
 
Tortella fragilis se caracteriza por las plantas en manojos densos, ausencia de cordón central, hojas largo lanceoladas hasta 4.5 mm con ápices frágiles y típicamente deciduos.
