Barbula arcuata is characterizeed by the lax habit, narrowly lanceolate-triangular leaves, plane to more commonly recureved leaf margins (often to near the apex), and smooth laminal cells. This species is often associated with Bryum limbatum. Barbula subulifolia Sull. is a synonym.
