Notes:

Ecology: Upper open montane to páramo and humid puna; on soil. Elevation: 1200-4500 m (Venezuela: 4000 m, Colombia: 1846-3200 m, Ecuador: 3700 m, Peru: 2750-4500 m, Bolivia: 1200 m?). Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes (Venezuela to Bolivia).
 
Specimens: VENEZUELA. Mérida: Fransén 1367 (GB); Táchira: Griffin et al. 631 (FLAS). COLOMBIA. Cauca: Killip 11866-B (NY). ECUADOR. Pichincha: Jameson (FH, holotype; isotype BM).
