Plants medium-sized, yellowish green or brownish green, in dense tufts. Stems reddish brown, erect, up to 3.5 cm high, rarely branched by innovations, with reddish rhizoids below; angled in cross section. Leaves dense, nearly erect, ca. 3–5 mm long, moderately sheathing and hyaline at base, slenderly lanceolate toward apex; margins plane or slightly recurved, sharply serrate above; costae percurrent to shortly excurrent; upper leaf cells narrowly rectangular, papillose, bi- to tri-stratose at margins; basal cells rectangular, smooth, hyaline. Synoicous. Setae 8–15 mm long; capsules spherical, curved, inclined, brownish, glossy, deeply longitudinally furrowed when dry; opercula small, conic; peristome double; exostome teeth lanceolate, endostome segments clearly shorter than the exostome teeth, dark green; basal membrane low. Spores 25–35 µm in diameter, brownish, coarsely papillose.
