Ecology: Open montane, or fragmentened secondary forest to páramo and humid puna; on soil and soil covered rocks. Elevation: 1900-4160 m (Venezuela: 2555-2950 m, Colombia: 1900-4070 m, Ecuador: 2780-4000 m, Peru: 2770-4160 m, Bolivia: 3100-4850 m). Distribution: Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela to Bolivia, southeast Brazil
Bartramia longifolia is distinguished by the spreading leaves 6.5-9 mm, intack, rarely deciduous leaf limb, firm, thick-walled shoulder cells, thick-walled and porose leaf base cells, generally synoicous, erect setae 13-22 mm, capsules 2.5-3 mm, double peristome, finely papillose below, finely to course vertically striate above exostome, shorter endostome (less than half the length of the exostome). The long perichaetial leaves are diagnostic. Bartramia macropoma Herzog is a synonym.
Bartramia longifolia se distingue por las hojas patentes de 6.5-9 mm, limbo de la hoja rara vez deciduo, firme, intacto, células del hombro con paredes gruesas, células basales de la hoja con paredes gruesas y porosas, generalmente sinoicas, setas erectas de 13-22 mm, cápsulas 2.5-3 mm, peristoma doble, finamente papiloso en la porción basal, estrias verticales finas a gruesas encima del exostoma, endostoma corto (menos de la mitad de la longitud del exostoma). Las hojas periqueciales largas sirven de diagnóstico. Bartramia macropoma Herzog es un sinónimo.
