Ecology. Yungas montane forest to humid puna; in exposed, less frequent in shaded, sites, on soil and rocks. Elevation. 1400-5000 m. Distribution. Bolivia: Cochabamba, La Paz. World range: tropical Andes, southeast Brazil.
Ecología. Bosque montano de Yungas a puna húmeda; en sitios expuestos, poco frecuente en sitios sombreados, sobre suelo y rocas. Altitud. 1400-5000 m. Distribución. Bolivia: Cochabamba y La Paz. Distribución mundial: Andes tropicales, sureste de Brasil.
Bartramia mathewsii is distinguished by the plant stature to 2.5 cm, loosely spread leaves ca. 3-4 mm, thick-walled, porose leaf base cells (somewhat thin-walled and shorter toward the margin), firm, thick-walled shoulder cells, distintly longer perichaetial leaves, 1.5-4 times longer than stem leaves, erect setae ca. 6-10 mm, capsules 2-2.8 mm, double peristome, finely papillose exostome, and shorter endostome. Bolivian collections can be referred to as B. mathewsii subsp. mathewsii. Three synonyms originally described from Bolivia include: Bartramia brotheri Herzog, B. perpusilla Müll. Hal. and B. pruinata Herzog.
Bartramia mathewsii se distingue por las planta hasta 2.5 cm, hojas extendidas laxamente ca. 3-4 mm, con paredes gruesas, células de la base de la hoja porosas (cortas y con paredes algo delgadas hacia el margen), células del hombro con paredes gruesas, firmes, hojas periqueciales distintivamente más largas, 1.5-4 veces más largos que las hojas del tallo, setas erectas ca. 6-10 mm, cápsulas de 2-2.8 mm, peristoma doble, exostoma finamente papiloso y endostoma corto.
