Bartramia pilicuspis is distinguished by the small plant stature to 1 cm, suberect and slightly flexouse leaves 1.8-2.4 mm, hyaline leaf tips, firm, thick-walled shoulder cells, and thin-walled, linear leaf base cells. The hyaline leaf tips appear to be diagnostic to this species. The type was collected by Herzog from Chocayatal.
