Ecology. Humid puna, possibly open high Yungas montane; mostly exposed, often wet habitats, on soil and humus. Elevation. 3250-3420 m. Distribution. Bolivia: La Paz, World range: Costa Rica, Venezuela to Peru.
 
Ecología. Húmedo puna, posiblemente abiertas alta Yungas montano; generalmente expuesto, a menudo húmedo hábitats, sobre suelo y humus. Altitud. 3250-3420 m. Distribución. Bolivia: La Paz, Distribución mundial: Costa Rica, Venezuela a Perú.
 
Breutelia squarrosa is distinguishded by the rather robust plant stature to 10 cm, leaves to 4 mm, squarrose to squarrose-recurved from leaf base (expanded leaf base not distinctly sheathing), strongly plicate in leaf base, narrowly to broadly lanceolate leaf limb gradually to abruptly narrowed at leaf tip, distally serrulate leaf limb margins, revolute margins to distal leaf base, excurrent costa, 1-3 rows of enlarge cells along basal margin, distinctly curved setae to 9 mm, globose capsules to 4 mm (slightly rugose when dry), and finely granulose exostome teeth to 150 µm.
 
Breutelia squarrosa is distinguishded by the bastante robusto planta stature a 10 cm, hojas a 4 mm, escuarroso a escuarroso-recurvado desde hoja base (expandida hoja base no conspicuamente envainador), marcadamente plegado en hoja base, angostamente a ampliamente lanceoladas hoja limbo gradualmente a abruptamente angostada at hoja ápice, distalmente serrulado hoja limbo márgenes, revoluto márgenes a distal hoja base, excurrente costa, 1-3 filas de enlarge células a lo largo basal margen, conspicuamente curvado seta a 9 mm, globoso cápsulas a 4 mm (escasamente rugoso cuando seco), y finamente granuloso exostoma dientes a 150 µm.
