Breutelia subarcuata is distinguished by the rather robust plant stature to 12 cm, leaves to 4 mm, erect-spreading (or falcate) from leaf base, broadly lanceolate leaf limb abruptly narrowed at leaf tip, serrulate at leaf tips, revolute margins to above midleaf, 3-7 rows of enlarge cells along basal margin, ± curved setae to 9 mm, subglobose capsules to 4 mm (slightly rugose to smooth when dry), and papillose-granulose-exostome teeth to 520 µm.
 
 Breutelia subarcuata se distingue por las the planta muy robustas hasta 12 cm, hojas hasta 4 mm, erecto-extendidas (o falcadas) desde la base de la hoja, limbo de la hoja ampliamente lanceolado, haciéndose abruptamente angosto en el ápice, márgenes serrulados en el ápice, revolutos hasta encima de media hoja, 3-7 filas de células agrandadas a lo largo del margen en la porción basal, seta ± curvada hasta 9 mm, cápsulas subglobosas hasta 4 mm (escasamente rugosas a lisas en seco) y dientes del exostoma papiloso-granulosos hasta 520 µm.
