Ecology. High open Yungas montane, probably extending into the humid puna; on soil. Elevation. 3550 m. Distribution. Bolivia: La Paz. World range: widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, less so in the Paleotropics and Australasia.

This entire assemblage requires further studies.

Bryum alpinum is characterized by the reddish- tinged or golden-brown coloration of the plants, imbricate leaves that are oblong to oblong-lancelate to ca. 2.5 mm, acute apex, unbordered and entire or subentire margins, strong costa often red in color, and thick or at least firm-walled cells. Several species are related to B. alpinum according to Ochi (1980) including B. microchaeton and B. paradoxum, and possibly B micronitidum.
 

Bryum alpinum se caracteriza por las plantas de color rojizo-matizado o pardo-dorado, hojas imbricadas oblongas a oblong-lanceladas hasta ca. 2.5 mm, ápices agudos, márgenes sin borde y enteros o subenteros, costa fuerte a menudo roja y células con paredes gruesas o por lo menos firmes. Varias especie están relacionadas con B. alpinum deacauerdo a Ochi (1980) incluyendo a B. microchaeton y B. paradoxum, y posiblemente B micronitidum. Este agrupación completa require mayores estudios.
