Notes:
Ecology: Open or forested margins of upper montane to lower páramo and puna; on soil, rather common on banks. Elevation: 1450-3450 m (Colombia: 2300-3300 m, Ecuador: 1450-3450 m, Peru: 2100-2800 m, Bolivia: 1850-2800 m.). Distribution: Widespread; tropical Andes from Venzuela to NW Argentina.
 
Ecología: Márgenes abiertos o arbolados del montano superior a páramo inferior; sobre suelo, algo común sobre bancos. Elevación: 1450-3450 m (Colombia: 2300-3250 m, Ecuador: 1450-3450 m, Perú: 2100-2800 m, Bolivia: 1850-2800 m). Distribución: Ampliamente distribuida; Andes tropicales, Venezuela a NO Argentina.
 
Pohlia elongata is distinguished by the glossy yellowish-green plants, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate leaves to 2.5 mm, recurved margins, subpercurrent costa, thick-walled laminal cells, paroicous sexual condition, seta 1, erect to inclined, elongate cylindrical capsules 3-7 mm, entire to slightly perforate endostomal segments and nodulose elongate cilia from a low basal membrane (2/5 the endostomal length). Synonyms include Pohlia leptodontium (Mitt.) Broth., P. rusbyana (Müll. Hal. ex E. Britton) Broth., P. spectabilis (Müll. Hal.) Broth., P. subleptopoda (Broth.). F.J. Herm. Reports of Pohlia grammocarpa (Müll. Hal.) Broth. from Ecuador can be referred to P. elongata.
 
Pohlia elongata se distingue por las plantas verde-amarillentas brillantes, hojas lanceoladas a oblongo-lanceoladas hasta 2.5 mm, márgenes recurvados, costa subpercurrente, células de la lámina con paredes gruesas, condición sexual paroica, setas 1, erectas a inclinadas, cápsulas cilíndricas alargadas 3 -7 mm, segmentos del endostoma enteros a escasamente perforados y cilios alargados nodulosos desde una membrana basal baja (2/5 de la longitud del endostoma). Los sinónimos incluyen a Pohlia leptodontium (Mitt.) Broth., P. rusbyana (Müll. Hal. ex E. Britton) Broth., P. spectabilis (Müll. Hal.) Broth. y P. subleptopoda (Broth.). F.J. Herm.
