Plants small to medium-sized, 6–20 mm high, green or yellowish green, not or slightly glossy, in loose or dense tufts. Stems erect, often branched, with rhizoids at base. Lower leaves small, sparse, lanceolate; upper leaves larger, corwded, linear-lanceolate, 3.5–5.0 mm × ca. 0.5 mm; margins often recurved near base, serrulate above the middle; costae ending in the apex or nearly percurrent; median leaf cells linear, 50–100 µm × 7–10 µm, thin-walled or moderately thick-walled; basal cells rectangular, 30–60 µm × 12–16 µm. Gemmae absent. Autoicous. Setae 1–4 cm long; capsules inclined to horizontal, club-shaped or oblong-pyriform, 3–6 mm long, neck slender, equal to or longer than urn; cells near mouth oblate-rectangular, thick-walled; opercula conic, slenderly apiculate; peristome double; exostome teeth yellowish brown, papillose; endostome segments perforate, with high basal membranes ca. 1/4–1/2 the length of the teeth; cilia 1–2 or absent. Spores 12–20 µm in diameter, minutely papillose.
