general taxon notes:
This species is close to Pohlia ludwigii, but the latter has smaller plants, appressed stem leaves, and stronger leaf costae.

Plants rather large, up to 30 mm high, pale green or yellowish green, somewhat reddish at base, not glossy, in dense tufts. Stems erect, slender, soft, loosely foliate. Leaves soft, lanceolate to narrowly oblong-ovate, 1.3–2.2 mm × 0.5–0.8 mm, acute at apex, slightly decurrent at base; margins plane, entire or only somewhat serrulate above; costae slender, ending below the apex; median leaf cells linear-rhomboidal, 55–90 µm × 10–20 µm, thin-walled, somewhat narrower near margins; apical cells shorter than the median cells; basal cells more or less rectangular. Gemmae absent. Dioicous. Sporophytes not seen.
