      Ecology. Puna; on soil, soil covered cliffs mixed with Bartramia. Elevation. 3400-4600 m. Distribution. Bolivia: Cochabamba, La Paz. World range: Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Bolivia and Argentina; South Africa.

      Illustration.

      Tristichium mirabile is distinguished by the moderately long setae (3-4 x capsule length), and presence of an opercula. The type collection was made by Lorentz from “Cuesta de Pinos in descensu ab alta Puna (alpina) in convallem Tarija Boliviae.”
