Ecology: Open high montane to páramo and humid puna; on rocks and soil covered rocks along and in streams. Elevation: 3000-4425 m (Venezuela: 3500 m, Colombia: 3000-4425 m, Ecuador: 3200-3385 m, Peru: 3280-3600 m, Bolivia: 3350-3700 m). Distribution: Tropical Andes; rather widespread.
Ecología: Montano alto abierto y páramo y puna húmeda sobre rocas y suelo cubriendo rocas a lo largo y en corrientes. Elevación: 3000-4425 m (Venezuela: 3500 m, Colombia: 3000-4425 m, Ecuador: 3200-3385 m, Bolivia: 3350-3700 m). Distribución: Andes Tropicales; distribución amplia.
Ditrichum gracile has been in recent times broadly defined, thus where previously thought to be Andean in distribution, is now construed to exhibit a nearly worldwide distribution. The subquadrate cells of the upper lamina are distinctive feature of this species.
Esta especie ha sido amplamente definida recientemente, anteriormente se estimó de distribución andina, actualmente se considera de distribución casi mundial. Las células subcuadradas de la lámina superior son distintivas.
