Ditrichum submersum is characterized by the aquatic habit, plant stature to 10 cm, short oblong base-setaceous leaves to 7 mm, and obscure upper, oblong cells of the lamina. The identity of this species is not well characterized, collections thus named from Colombia and Ecuador vary considerably from that illustrated by Herzog. In other words really do not have a clue what this taxon is.
