Grimmia trichophylla is characterized by the keeled, lanceolate leaves, recurved margins (distinctly so on one side), 1-2-stratose (margins 2-stratose, irregularly so on lamina), rectangular marginal cells at base with thick walled upper and lower ends of the cells, presence of propagula on dorsal lamina, sexual condition dioicous, curved setae, exserted, ribbed, ellipsoid capsules.
 
Grimmia trichophylla se caracteriza por tener las hojas carinadas, lanceoladas, márgenes recurvados (conspicuamente en un lado), con 1-2 estratos (márgenes biestratosos, irregularmente en la lámina), células marginal rectangulares en la base con paredes gruesas en los extremos superior e inferior en los extremos de las células, presencia de propágulos en la lámina dorsal, condición sexual dioica, setas curvadas, cápsulas elipsoides, excertas, y acostilladas.
