Plants rigid, grayish green, dark green to yellowish or blackish brown, in dense mats. Primary stems creeping; secondary stems erect or ascending, irregularly branched, 3–5 cm long, flagelliform branches absent. Leaves imbricate when dry, erect-spreading when moist, ovate-lanceolate, 1.3–2.3 mm long, slightly concave, shortly to long acuminate, often with hyaline, dentate apices; margins entire, sometimes slightly recurved; costae
absent; upper leaf cells rounded-quadrate to oval, 8–18 µm × ca. 8 µm, coarsely 1–2-papillose; lower cells subquadrate or irregular, mostly pluripapillose; basal juxtacostal cells elongate, smooth; alar cells sometimes differentiated. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves large, oblong-elliptical-lanceolate, upper margins ciliate. Setae short; capsules often immersed; opercula conic, shortly rostrate; annuli not developed; peristome absent. Calyptrae small, cucullate. Spores 20–30 µm in diameter, finely papillose.
