      Ecology: Open montane to páramo and humid puna; on soil and rocks, along stream and lake margins, bogs. Elevation: 3400-4500 m (Ecuador: 3800-3920 m, Peru: 3400-4100 m, Bolivia: 4200-4500 m). Distribution: Widespread.

      The report of this species from Colombia (Churchill & Linares C., 1995) is likely in error, = D. aduncus.

      Specimens: ECUADOR. Cotopaxi: Buck 9908 (NY). PERU. San Martín: León & Young 1866 (FLAS). BOLIVIA. Cochabamba: Herzog 4876 (JE); La Paz: Lewis 88-442 (B, mixed with Scorpidium cossonii).
