4a. Hygrohypnum luridum var. luridum   水灰藓原变种  shui hui xian yuan bian zhong
Plants medium-sized, green, yellowish, or blackish green, in caespitose patches. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched; in cross section cortical cells thick-walled; central strand weakly differentiated; pseudoparaphyllia absent. Stem leaves erect or falcate-secund, ovate, 1.0–1.5 mm × 0.4–0.6 mm, slightly curved, gradually acuminate or obtuse, apiculate at apex; margins involute, entire; costae single, ending just above the middle of leaf, sometimes forked; median leaf cells elongate-rhomboidal, 30–35 mm × 5–6 mm; alar cells small, numerous, quadrate, hyaline or yellowish. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves elongate-lanceolate, 3.5–4.0 mm × ca. 0.7 mm, plicate; costae single, strong, reaching ca. 2/3 the leaf length. Setae 15–20 mm long, reddish; capsules elongate-ovoid, suberect; endostome segments carinate; cilia 2–3, nodulose, papillose above, shorter than segments. Spores 16–18 mm in diameter, papillose.
