Notes:
Ecology: Open montane to páramo and possibly humid puna; boggy or seepy habitats. Elevation: 1400-3340 m (Venezuela: 1400-2500 m, Colombia: 2100-3340 m, Peru: 2600-3100 m, Bolivia: 2950 m). Distribution: Venezuela to Bolivia, Guiana, Brazil (southern and Amazonia).
 
Ecología: Bosque montano superior a páramo; sitios pantanosos o con filtraciones. Elevación: 1400-3340 m (Venezuela: 1400-2500 m, Colombia: 2100-3340 m, Perú: 2600-3100 m, Bolivia: 2950 m). Distribución: Venezuela a Bolivia, Guyana, Brasil (sur y Amazonía).
 
Plants pink to dark wine-red; stem leaves somewhat variable in shape, but typically sharply cuspidate, varying from gradually acute to abruptly concave-pointed; branch leaves erect and notably 5-ranked when moist, when dry slenderly concave-acuminate, loosely curved-spreading, often secund. Asignada a la sección Acutifolia.
 
Plantas rosadas a rojo-vino oscuro; hojas del tallo algo variables en forma, pero típicamente cuspidadas de manera pronunciada, variando desde gradualmente agudas a abruptamente cóncavo-pointed; hojas de las ramas erectas y distribuidas en 5 hileras evidentes en húmedo, en seco cóncavo-acuminadas delgadas, laxamente curvado-extendidas, a menudo unilaterales.
