Plants slender, olive-green to brown, young branches green, in loose or dense mats. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched, usually with erect, sometimes spreading branches, ca. 1 cm long. Leaves erect, appressed when dry, erect-spreading when moist, keeled, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 0.7–1.3 mm long, broadly acuminate to narrowly acute, occasionally narrowly obtuse in old leaves; margins plane, sometimes reflexed below, entire or crenulate due to the marginal projection of cell ends; costae percurrent, sometimes with rhizoids on the back surfaces; upper leaf cells 6–13 µm wide, thick-walled; juxtacostal cells larger; cells near margins smaller; apical cells smooth; median cells bulging; basal cells more or less strongly mammillose to nearly papillose. Inner perichaetial leaves longer than the vegetative ones, slender, acute; paraphyses numerous, persistent. Setae 4–8 mm long; capsules 1.3–2.4 mm long, cylindrical or fusiform when mature, plicate nearly throughout; opercula rostrate; annuli not or slightly differentiated; stomata superficial; peristome highly reduced to a very low membrane, hyaline, smooth to coarsely papillose. Calyptrae mitrate, lobed at the base, hairy. Spores 25–50 µm in diameter, papillose.
