general taxon notes:
This species is characterized by having elongate and undulate leaves and is similar to European Mnium undulatum. Some Chinese specimens with undulate leaves are often misidentified as M. undulatum, but they are actually Plagiomnium confertidens.

Plants large to robust, in loose tufts. Primary stems prostrate, with dense, brownish rhizoids; secondary stems erect, 7–10 cm high, densely foliate above. Leaves crisped when dry, spreading when moist, narrowly rounded-ovate, oblong-ligulate or obovate, more or less undulate, narrowed and decurrent at base, abruptly acute or obtuse at apex; margins distinctly bordered by 2–4 rows of elongate cells, serrate throughout, with 1-celled teeth; costae percurrent or ending below the apex; leaf cells small, hexagonal or rounded, walls thickened at corners. Dioicous. Setae clustered, 3–4 cm long; capsules elongate-ovoid, inclined to pendulous; opercula rostrate.
