Plagiomnium rugicum (Laur.) T. Kop., Ann. Bot. Fenn. 5: 146. 1968. Plagiomnium affine var. rugicum (Laur.) Marg. & During, Bekn. Fl. Ned. Blad. & Leverm. 443. 1982. Mnium rugicum Laur., Flora 19: 292. 1827.
Plants medium-sized, in loose tufts. Stems prostrate, sparsely foliate, with dense, brownish rhizoids; fertile branches erect, ca. 2.0 cm high, densely foliate upward. Leaves elliptical, narrowed at base, abruptly acute, obtuse, or apiculate at apex; margins distinctly bordered by 4–8 rows of elongate cells, sparsely serrulate with 1-celled teeth above mid-leaf; costae slender, percurrent; leaf cells pentagonal to hexagonal, regularly arranged, thin-walled. Dioicous. Sporophytic features the same as those of the genus.
