5. Symphyodon yuennanensis Broth. 云南刺果藓 yun-nan ci-guo xian
Symb. Sin. 4: 90. 1929. Type. China: Yunnan, Djiou-djiang, 27°55´N, alt. 2400–2800 m, Handel-Mazzetti 9473 (holotype H; isotypes S, W).
Plants slender, medium-sized, to 6 cm long, dull, yellowish green to brown. Stems pinnately to irregularly pinnately branched. Leaves appressed, not clearly dimorphic; stem leaves ovate-lanceolate, 1.6–2.0 mm × 0.65–0.85 mm; branch leaves smaller, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 1.1–1.4 mm × 0.35–0.50 mm; all leaf apices bluntly acuminate; margins sometimes incurved on one side, serrate above, serration formed by a row of enlarged cells, subentire below; costae unequal, extending to 2/5–1/2 total leaf length; apical leaf cells shorter and wider than the adjacent cells; median cells linear, 40–60 µm × 2–3 µm, prorulose on stem leaves, distinctly prorate on branch leaves; alar cells differentiated, subquadrate to irregularly short rectangular, thick-walled, of 4–5 rows extending 4–5 cells up the margins. Sporophytes unknown.
